Germination and vigor of long-pepper seeds (Piper hispidinervum) as a function of temperature and light Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Pacheco Junior,Francisco; Silva,Josué Bispo da; Negreiros,Jacson Rondinelli da Silva; Silva,Mirla Rose Gomes da; Farias,Sirlley Braga.
The long pepper is considered a promising species because of offering the prospect of making Brazil self-sufficient in the production of safrole, an important essential oil used as a fixative for fragrances and having therapeutic properties. In establishing areas intended for the cultivation of this species, it is necessary to evaluate the physiological quality of the seeds used in the production of seedlings. The objective was to determine the conditions of temperature and luminosity for the test of germination and vigor in seeds of the long-pepper. Seeds from four different lots were used to make the following measurements: moisture content (105 ± 3 ºC for 24 hours), germination (20; 25; 30 and 35 ºC with photoperiods of 12 and 24 hours, and alternating...

Protein expression upon desiccation and imbibition of Magnolia ovata A. St.-Hil seeds BABT
José,Anderson Cleiton; Silva,Edvaldo Aparecido Amaral da; Davide,Antonio Claudio; Toorop,Peter.
The effect of seed drying and imbibition was studied by differential protein expression using two dimensional gel electrophoresis. After drying to a range of water contents, seeds were germinated to assess the viability. Seeds of Magnolia ovata did not withstand the desiccation down to 0.10 g H2O · g-1 dw. The critical water content below which the desiccation sensitivity became apparent was around 0.18 g H2O · g-1 dw (-26.5 MPa). Total protein was extracted and separated by 2D electrophoresis from fresh seeds (0.28 g H2O · g-1 dw), mild dried seeds (0.25 g H2O · g-1 dw) and seeds at low water content (0.10 g H2O · g-1 dw) before and after imbibition for 10 days. The proteome profile revealed the presence of 588 spots on each silver stained gel, from which...

Seed germination of Bowdichia virgilioides Kunth, under water stress AGRIAMBI
Silva,Lígia M. de M.; Aguiar,Ivor B. de; Rodrigues,Teresinha de J.D..
Bowdichia virgilioides (Leguminosae-Papilionoideae) is a native tree species in Brazil characteristic of the savannah vegetation. Seeds of this species were submitted to different osmotic potentials induced by polyethyleneglycol (PEG-6000) in order to verify their resistance to drought conditions. Seeds were previously scarified with sulphuric acid and incubated at 25 ºC with an eight hours photoperiod, at osmotic potentials of 0.0, -0.1, -0.3, -0.5, -0.7, -0.9 and -1.1 MPa. It was found that water stress resistance limit ranged from -0.7 to -0.9 MPa. Significant reduction in germination velocity from -0.3 MPa, and final percentage of germination from -0.5 MPa in relation to control, were observed. Germination under drastic conditions of water stress was...

Tecnologia de sementes florestais nativas da Amazônia Ocidental. Infoteca-e
BIANCHETTI, A.; TEIXEIRA, C. A. D.; MARTINS, E. P..
